OCS Library

General Information

The goal of the OCS Library is to reinforce the stated mission of the school. Additional goals of the Library are to reinforce the curriculum taught at all grade levels and to encourage a love of reading. Materials are carefully chosen for their literary and moral excellence, and must conform to the OCS Library Selection Policy.

The Ovilla Christian School Library is located on the second floor of the Educational Building. The Library is open on school days until 4 p.m., and on Sundays after the Ovilla Road Baptist Church morning service. The collection includes over 12,000 books and other media. The Library has a large collection of books by Christian authors, both non-fiction and fiction. There are also many family videos available for checkout.

Library Skills

Elementary students visit the library weekly. Appreciation of different literature genres, navigating the library and learning the Dewey Decimal System, dictionary skills, research skills, and especially a love of reading are taught. Junior high and senior high students use the library, usually with a classroom teacher, to do research on specific topics. The upper level students are also encouraged to checkout books for their reading pleasure.

Reading Programs

The students in grades 4 - 6 participate in a reading program called The Eagle Book Club.
